Overview
D-Day 1476 – For Your Tomorrow commemorates the 1,476 lives lost on 6 June 1944 under British command on D-Day. The display is created in partnership with Standing With Giants, a community-based project which works to raise understanding and appreciation of our freedom and to remember and pay tribute to those who gave their lives so we could live ours today. In this third year of display, new figures will be unveiled within the 1,476. These include Beach Masters, Dog Handlers, Royal Navy Officers, Tank Crew, Merchant Navy personnel and Royal Engineers. Reflecting the broader story of the Normandy Campaign, 40 additional silhouettes representing British Commando Frogmen and personnel serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps will also be included. Also included in your entry is Four Seasons – An exhibition of light works exploring time and place, and the influence of nature, landscape and the environment by Bruce and Tink Munro. Light artist Bruce Munro and his daughter, Tink, collaborate on this exhibition taking place in the newly renovated Coach House Gallery. The new work by Bruce combines digital photography, light, projection and sound to evoke his ideas, including a piece which translates the music of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons into dynamic light. Tink’s work uses barkcloth, pierced and back-lit, to create an ethereal commentary on the natural environment. With a choice of places to get refreshments.
