Overview
Goodnestone Park Gardens covers roughly fifteen acres of the Estate and includes a large variety of trees, plants and shrubs. All of the areas are open to visitors who will be able to appreciate the seasonal colours and scents, and many of the plants are available to buy in the Nursery. There are various public footpaths that lead into the wider estate including the famous Serpentine Walk. Sadly, the gardens went through a period of neglect during the Second World War when the army requisitioned Goodnestone Park. In 1955 Brook and Margaret Fitzwalter inherited the estate. Lady Fitzwalter and her head gardener John Wellard undertook the massive task of restoring and developing the garden. They were both instrumental in creating the gardens that we recognise today, considered one of the most beautiful gardens in Kent. We begin with time in Canterbury where you can get an early lunch
