Overview
Tamsin Waley-Cohen sponsored by Danny Chapchal. Ben Gernon Conductor. TamsIn Waley-Cohen Violin. Mozart Symphony No.35 in D Major K385 (Haffner). Mozart Violin Concerto No.5 in A Major K219 (Turkish). Beethoven Symphony No.7 in A Major Op.92. The young British conductor Ben Gernon performed with us for the first time in 2016 and was an instant hit with audience and orchestra alike. It is a huge pleasure to welcome him back to Brighton, along with another favourite, the violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, in a concert that showcases two of the great classical composers. Mozart’s Symphony No.35 started life as a serenade for his childhood friend Sigmund Haffner. It was first performed in Vienna in 1783 to great acclaim and is full of energy and invention. Tamsin then joins Ben to perform one of the most frequently played violin concertos ever written – Mozart’s fifth violin concerto. Our concert closes with Beethoven’s Symphony No.7, notable for its innovate orchestration, spontaneity and lively rhythms.
