Overview
Ascott House presents as an ‘Old English’ manor house of black and white half timber, with red –tiled roofs and shafted brick chimneystacks. Its core is an old farmhouse thought to date from 1606. The original farmhouse has undergone many changes since being acquired by the Rothschild family in 1873. Ascott houses an exceptional collection of paintings, fine furniture and superb porcelain. The 30 acre gardens are an attractive mix of the formal and natural with specimen trees, shrubs and beautiful herbaceous borders. Countless waterlilies afloat on the Lilly Pond. Wild roses, alliums and campanulas frame the Madeira Walk. Grand and graceful, intimate and exciting, Ascott Gardens offer endless things to explore. We will begin with a refreshment stop in Aylesbury so you can get lunch before making the short drive to Ascott for our afternoon visit. A stop at the Tea Room is a part of the Ascott experience. Work up an appetite by exploring the House and Gardens, then drop by the weathered red brick buildings of the Estate’s Cricket Pavilion. Sit outside in the attractive courtyard on fine days or receive a warm welcome in the light and airy Tea Room itself.
