We enjoy a guided tour of Chiswick House, one of the earliest examples of Neo-Classical design in England and its gardens are the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement. Step inside to see architecture inspired by ancient Rome with key items of designer furniture as well as a rich collection of Old Master paintings. After some free time for lunch then step outside into the 65 acres of Grade 1 listed gardens. The highlight will be the magnificent 19th Century conservatory which houses the world famous heritage Camellia Collection, in bloom every spring time, a gorgeous array of blooms; pink, red, white and striped – a must see. Visit the collection of 33 different varieties, many of which are descended from the original planting in 1828. Among them is the unique Middlemist’s red, originally brought from China in 1804 by Londoner John Middlemist, a nurseryman from Shepherds Bush. Enjoy 65 acres of gardens, from classical vistas to ponds, fountains and an 18th century wilderness. With indoor and outdoor seating, Chiswick Cafe serves delicious sandwiches, soups, and modern British cooking using produce from the Kitchen Garden.
