Listed in the Domesday Book, this castle has been a Norman stronghold, a royal residence and a royal palace. Its situation is stunning, set on two islands in a magnificent lake. The Royal Manor was originally built in 857AD and owned by a Saxon royal family. After the Norman Conquest, work began on building the first stone castle on the site. With over 500 acres of beautiful gardens there is plenty to enjoy. Leeds Castle’s Bird of Prey Centre houses birds from a variety of different species, from our smallest American Kestrel to our largest, a Russian Steppe Eagle. Every day (weather permitting) the birds are on public display on the weathering ground and in their aviaries. Each bird has an information sign showing their name, species, age, origin and what they like to eat. The Bird of Prey Centre is located behind the Maze. Castle View Restaurant. The oak-beamed setting of Castle View Restaurant offers delicious meals served in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoyed with spectacular views across the terrace to the magnificent Castle. During the day, take time out from exploring the Castle and grounds to enjoy a light lunch or delicious homemade meal from our seasonal menu. The Maze Café. The refreshed Maze Café offers a great selection of grab and go items for all the family, including freshly baked sausage rolls, barista style coffee and classic ice cream selection. The focus is on speedy service, value for money and something to suit everyone. Stable Yard Café. Ensure you stop by the buzzing courtyard to explore the range of freshly made sandwiches, paninis, cakes and drinks. The road train is not running so you will have to walk from coach to castle but a Mobility cart is available for anyone that really can’t manage. The Train and the Boat on the lake are not running and the Maze is not open otherwise all as normal.
