Overview

We begin with a fish and chips lunch with a hot drink. This year we aren’t going to see many tourists in London. It is going to be a unique opportunity to enjoy the iconic Tower of London to ourselves and it’s going to feel like going back in time – to the 1960s. And, of course, to the Normans, the Middle Ages and the Tudors!  In the company of a top notch entertaining Blue Badge Tour Guide you will hear the story of the Tower of London from William the Conqueror to the last state prisoner Rudolf Hess. You will see the Yeoman Warders, known as the Beefeaters – the ceremonial guardians of the Tower – and the legendary ravens who live there along with the Crown Jewels, used in every coronation.  Ponder the horror of arriving at the Traitor’s Gate, hear stories of the Bloody Tower, discover the “privilege” of a Tower execution, contemplate some ghosts and come away with a real understanding of 1000 years of the Tower of London as a palace, prison, fortress and place of execution.  The walking on this tour is kept to a minimum but it isn’t going to be suitable for people who use two sticks or a rollator.
