The Story
Bringing 2000 years of history, myth and legend to life in a spectacular family performance. As dusk falls, you take your seat in anticipation in front of a vast stage. The lake is still. You are immersed in the music. You are watching King Harold rejoicing, having conquered the Vikings, but his celebrations are short-lived. The tranquil waters of the lake begin to ripple, its surface begins to swirl. Suddenly a Norman longship erupts from its depths, bearing a fierce William of Normandy and his roaring men who leap ashore, swords held high. This is just one of Kynren’s 29 scenes which takes you on an action-packed and emotional journey through time. Encompassing the Roman occupation, the Viking and Norman invasions, medieval feasts and jousting, the splendour of the Tudors, the English Civil War, the Georgian Renaissance, Industrial Revolution and two world wars right up to the current period and many other scenes in between – Kynren takes you on a spellbinding voyage through history, myth and legend, as seen through the eyes of Arthur, the son of a mining family from the North East of England.
Brought to you by a 1,000-strong cast and crew who have been professionally trained by international performance experts in dance, theatrical combat, pyrotechnics, and equestrianism. The huge cast is joined on stage by the animals of Kynren, collectively bringing each scene to life amidst jaw-dropping special effects and an original sound track by the award-winning composer Nathan Stornetta.

Itinerary
Thursday 5th August
We depart Sussex and make our way north. Having made a suitable stop we make our lunch time break at Stamford. Time for a look round this lovely market town before we continue to our hotel.
Friday 6th August
This morning we make the short drive into Bishop Auckland. We will spend the day exploring the Castle and the town where we learn about the many interesting developments that have taken place in the last few years. The Auckland Project has breathed new life into the town and covers a thousand years of history, art, culture and faith, within the beautiful surroundings of this historic town.
You can climb (there is a lift) the Auckland Tower a 15-metre-high viewing tower and take a bird’s eye view across the Deer Park, Castle and town. The Tower also gives a wonderful view across The Kynren site. On the way down, drop into the first floor and discover a special exhibition looking at the origins of Auckland Castle and its historical residents, the mighty Prince Bishops. The Castle which is the jewel in the town will have just re-opened after having been closed for three years whilst important restoration work has been carried out. There will be time to explore at your leisure.
The Mining Art Gallery is home to the Gemini Collection, which contains more than 420 pieces of mining art. The gallery displays work by a wealth of artists, many of whom worked in the Great Northern Coalfield, including Tom McGuinness, Tom Lamb and Bob Olley.
We have also arranged a guided Past and Future tour of The Market Place. There are plenty of places for lunch in the town.
Saturday 7th August
We make our way to Barnard Castle this morning where we visit the breathtaking Grade 1 listed building that is The Bowes Museum. The Museum was founded by John and Joséphine Bowes in the 19th Century to share their love of art with the world. Housing over 30,000 works of fine and decorative arts, there is a wealth of treasures for you to discover across 3 floors. We return to our hotel early afternoon to give you time to put your feet up before an early supper. This evening we make our way to Bishops Auckland for this evening’s performance. Tonight you will experience an epic adventure, the UK's 'must-see' live action outdoor spectacular, performed by a cast and crew of 1,000 on a 7.5-acre stage! Starting at sunset and ending in starlight, Kynren is an enthralling live action family entertainment.
Sunday 8th August
This morning our favourite guide, Jan Williams, meets us at the hotel for a 10.00 start. Jan will guide us around some of the stunning countryside in the area. We head to the historic market town of Hexham where you will have time to explore the many winding streets. There is the beautiful abbey which you may like to pop into. We enjoy an early refreshment stop here before we head in to the Northumberland National Park and travel via Chollerford to pick up the route along Hadrian’s Wall, from where there will be some lovely views and Jan will regail us with tales from times past. We will stop at Cawfields for a photo opportunity and the chance to have a short walk before we arrive at The Sill, The National Landscape Discovery Centre, a relatively new project that houses an exhibition explaining a lot of the historical and archaeological significance of the area. Refreshments are available at The Sill and, after a suitable break, we head back to our Hotel arriving at approximately 7.00pm
