Overview
The early 20th Century German novel “ The Magic Mountain,” was inspired by a stunning Alpine Garden in Schatzalp, above Davos and our hotel is ideally positioned in the famous Royal resort of Klosters for exploring this beautiful floral oasis as well as the towns and Alpine lakes of Davos and the region.
Sadly we have no more single rooms left on this tour.
Itinerary
Saturday 1st September
We depart Sussex and make our way to Dover for our mid-morning P&O ferry to Calais. Club Class is available. Club Class gives you access to the private quiet lounge with free papers, a free glass of champagne, tea and coffee and waiter service. On arrival in Calais we continue our journey through France. Having made suitable stops en route we arrive at our overnight hotel on the outskirts of Metz.
Sunday 2nd September
After breakfast we continue our journey through France which takes us past Strasbourg and in to the lovely Alsace region. Passing the Vosges mountains to our right we then cross into Switzerland at Basel. We by pass Zurich and then enjoy lovely views across the Zürichsee as we start to climb up to our resort at Klosters where we arrive late afternoon.
Monday 3rd September
Today we will travel to Davos, the highest town in The Alps, and board the Schatzalp funicular railway to the botanical garden. At a height of 1.861 metres the garden features around 3500 different flower species from all over the world. We then return to Davos where there will be time to explore this fashionable resort with its fine shops, museum and galleries.
Tuesday 4th September
Today will be at leisure in Klosters giving you time to explore the local area. Why not use your visitors card on the Gotschnagrat cable car to travel up the mountain above Klosters to enjoy the dramatic views over the valley.
Wednesday 5th September
Today’s excursion takes us along some of the most spectacular roads in Europe. We commence our ascent along the Fluela Pass to the Austrian border and the resort of Nauders, before traversing the magnificent Reschen Pass into Italy. The route descends past the impressive Lake Reschen before we start to climb back into Switzerland, passing the beautiful Swiss National Park and its amazing scenery.
Thursday 6th September
After breakfast we depart for Switzerland’s oldest city, Chur, a city that charms visitors with its fine mountain setting, twisting alleys and historic buildings. Numerous boutiques, restaurants, bars, museums and galleries in the largely traffic-free Old Town create a Mediterranean-style atmosphere. We have arranged a guided tour of the city boasting 5,000 years of civilisation history. The tour follows a route on foot from the modern railway station, through the bustling centre, along the narrow winding streets of the Old Town, and up to the 800-year old Cathedral. Time for lunch and some free time to explore on your own.
Friday 7th September
We depart Klosters after breakfast and commence our journey back to Metz. Having made suitable stops en route we arrive at our hotel in good time for dinner.
Saturday 8th September
From Metz we continue back across France where we arrive in Calais in time for a mid afternoon ferry back to Dover. We expect to arrive back in the Maresfield area by approximately 19.00.
